Campbellsville, Kentucky
Â
The month of February is approaching an end, but the winning streak for the Campbellsville University Tigers now stands strong at three. On an overcast day with some light rain, the Tigers played their fourth home game this season as they hosted Louiville's Spalding University. A combination of solid pitching and some late power led the Tigers to the win, and they now stand at 6-2.
Â
The Tigers did not wait around to get going as they picked up a first inning run.Â
Tyler Derby (San Jose, California) got the inning started with a line drive single to center.Â
Chris Curley (Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky) followed suit with a double to the right center wall staking the Tigers to a 1-0 lead.
Â
The would slip however as a couple defensive meltdowns got the best of the Tigers. Down 3-2 in the sixth inning,
Brian Chase (San Jose, California) was called on to pinch hit. On the second pitch he saw, he blasted a fastball over the center field wall for his third homerun. Chase wasn't finished.
Â
In the seventh inning, the Tigers took the lead.Â
Nathan Quesenberry (Elizabethtown, Kentucky) drew a walk after a long at bat.Â
Nick Bertolucci (Cupertino, California), sacraficed bunted Quesenberry over which set the table for
Colin Bryan (San Jose, California). Bryan laced a fastball down the left field line for the go ahead doulbe.
Â
Looking for insurance in the bottom of the 8th,
Brian Chase again led off the inning. Just like his first at bat, Chase took the second pitch he saw and cranked it over the left center field wall. Two pitches later,
Jimmy Voelker (Placerville, California) blasted his third homer of the year. That was more than enough for the Tiger pitchers.
Â
Eric Mattos (San Jose, California) started for Campbellsville and threw six solid innings in the no decision.Â
Jake Kutsukos (Jupiter, Florida) picked up the win in two perfect innings of relief.Â
Ian Pick (Santa Clara, California) notched his second save of the year in the ninth.
Â
The Tigers have added a game to the schedule and it will be tomorrow at home, as they will host St. Catherine College. Game time is slated for 2:00 P.M.Â
Chris Curley will be on the hill in the non-conference game.
