Williamsburg, Kentucky
After the big MSC series between Campbellsville and Cumberlands had been pushed back for two days due to rain, the two teams were finally able to meet up for game one of a three game series on Sunday afternoon. It was a great start to the series for the Tigers as they were able to win game one, which was good for their 13th straight win, taking them to 16-2 overall, and 5-0 in MSC play. It took timely pitching and two out offense to propel the Tigers to the big win in Williamsburg.
The Tigers got rolling in the second inning as they jumped up 5-0 on the Patriots.Â
Brian Chase (San Jose, California) drew a lead off walk and it was followed by a
Jimmy Voelker (Placerville, California) single to center.Â
Nathan Quesenberry (Elizabethtown, Kentucky) then laid down a perfect drag bunt and was safe at first to load the bases with nobody out.Â
Alex Ponich (Kamloops, British Columbia) then laced a single to left to plate one.Â
Zach Townsend (Freemont, California) then singled to center to plate the second run. With a full count, and two outs in the inning, the runners were moving on the pitch and
Tyler Derby (San Jose, California) took advantage as he drove the fastball down the right field line for a 3 RBI single, putting Campbellsville up 5-0.
The Patriots would close the gap, making it a two run game. Campbellsville would put away the Cumberlands in the end. In the top of the seventh, the Tigers grabbed three insurance runs to put them up 9-3. Despite a valiant comeback attempt in the bottom half,
Spencer Frantz (Rogue River, Oregon) was able to slam the door, giving the Tigers the 9-6 win. It was Frantz's second save in the last week.Â
Ian Pick (Santa Clara, California) moved to 3-0 with the win.Â
Alex Tolmachoff (Peoria, Arizona) pitched a perfect sixth in relief.
The Tigers will complete the three game series on Monday in Williamsburg.Â
Marc Wilson (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) and
Jake Kutsukos (Jupiter, Florida) will be on the mound for the Tigers. Game time is set for noon.
