Campbellsville, Kentucky
Â
Winners of their last four, and eighteen of their last nineteen, The #8 Campbellsville University Baseball team hosted the Bulldogs of Union University on Tuesday in mid-week, non-conference action. The results could not have been any better as the Tigers knocked off Union (RV) 12-1. The game was called after seven innings due to the ten run rule.
Â
The Tigers sent sophomore
Alex Tolmachoff out on the mound for his second start of the year. Tolmachoff did more than give the Tigers a chance to win. Tolmachoff scattered five hits in a complete game effort, needing only 68 pitches to notch his fourth win. The Peoria, Arizona native tied
Ian Pick with the best record on the team, moving to 4-0.
Â
Offensively, the Tigers did most of their damage in the fourth inning as they put up 8 runs and they sent 12 batters to the plate. Zachary Townsend had two hits in the inning, including a leadoff triple into the right center gap that got the inning going.Â
Logan Smith put the icing on the cake as he launched his second homerun of the year in that inning over the right field wall. Smith had the best game of his collegiate career, going 4 for 4 with 6 runs batted in.Â
Brian Chase also had a big day as he went 3 for 4 and had two RBIs of his own.
Â
Announced just after the game, the NAIA has voted Campbellsville into the #8 spot in the country. They were just three points out of the #7 spot. The Tigers will look to take this momentum into their weekend series with Lindsey Wilson. In conference play, the Tigers still sit with a perfect 9-0 record and are 22-3 overall.
