On a cold and rainy day, the Campbellsville University Tigers Baseball team fell at the hands of host Lindsey Wilson College. The loss was the first for the Tigers in MSC play, dropping their conference record to 9-1, and their overall record falls to 22-4. The two teams went back and forth, but the home town Blue Raiders prevailed in the end.
Â
Trailing 3-0 in the top of the second, the Tigers mounted a comeback to tie it at three apiece. With two outs and a runner on first, Junior
Zach Townsend laced his first homer of the year off the right field scoreboard to tie the game up at three.
Â
The Tigers looked to put it away for good in the third as they put a five run inning on the board, taking an 8-3 lead.Â
Colin Bryan led off the inning with his first collegiate homerun over the left center field wall and the Tigers followed suit with a plethora of walks and base hits.Â
Alex Ponich capped the inning with a two run single to right.
Â
The Blue Raiders answered back in the bottom of the fourth notching the score at eight to eight. The Raiders used five walks and three hits to get back in the game. They built off their momentum and would score six more times before the game was over.
Â
Down 14-8 in their final at bat, the Tigers continued to fight, closing the gap to 14-11 and they even had the tying run at the plate. Despite their efforts, the Tigers would go on to fall 14-11 to the Raiders, suffering their first loss of the season in conference play.
Â
The rain was certainly a factor for both teams. In the seven inning contest, there were fourteen walks issued and two batters were hit by pitches.
Â
Due to inclement weather, the rest of the series has been postponed and will be made up at a later date. The Tigers will look to start a new winning streak this Tuesday as they will host Trevecca Nazarene on Tuesday. Game time is scheduled for 2:30 P.M. at Tiger Stadium.
