Campbellsville, Kentucky
Â
Just two games remained for the Tigers before they entered conference play. Their final tune up was against Huntington University (IN) as the Forresters traveled south to take on Campbellsville. The day couldn't have gone any better for the hometown Tigers as they swept the visiting Forresters, bringing their record to 9-2 on the season. They won the first game in a 4-2 pitcher's duel and took the night cap in dominant fashion, winning 9-3.
Â
In the first game, sophomore transfer
Alex Tolmachoff (Peoria, Arizona) made his first start of the season and shined. Tolmachoff kept the Tigers in the game the whole way, allowing just two runs in six innings of work. Tolmachoff struck out three batters, and did not yield a walk.
Â
Down 2-0 in the fifth inning, Campbellsville tied it up thanks to a 2 RBI single by
Tyler Derby (San Jose, California). In the sixth inning, the Tigers pulled away. With the bases loaded, the Huntington pitcher balked in the third run. With runners on second and third and one out, senior
Rob Elliott (Byron Center, Michigan) laid down a perfect bunt to successfully pull of a suicide squeeze which scored
Nick Bertolucci (San Jose, California).
Â
Jake Kutsukos pitched a scoreless seventh, picking up his first save of the year. Tolmachoff moved to 2-0 with the win.
Â
In game two, the Tigers wasted no time to get going. A scoreless game was busted open in the third inning.Â
Nathan Quesenberry (Elizabethtown, Kentucky) cranked his first homerun of the year over the centerfield wall, putting the Tigers up 3-0. Quesenberry worked his magic again in the fifth, this time blasting a towering opposite field homerun. The score after his second homer was 9-0.
Â
The run support was more than enough for Junior
Skylar Brewer (Menlo Park, California) who made his first collegiate start. Brewer went 5.2 innings, allowing no earned runs, while striking out six.Â
Jon Bourassa (British Columbia, Canada) and
Spencer Frantz (Rogue River, Oregon) recorded the four final outs.
Â
The Tigers have now won six in a row and will carry this momentum into Friday when they open up conference play at home. They will host rival Georgetown in a four game series. First pitch of the series will be Friday at 1:00 P.M.Â
Ian Pick and
Marc Wilson will be on the mound for the first two games.
