Campbellsville University's Lady Tigers got their offense playing like their defense and buried Georgetown 63-44 in the semi-finals of the Mid-South Conference Tournament Saturday in Frankfort.
"We didn't play well offensively at the start, but I thought we did a super job defensively," said Lady Tiger coach Ginger Colvin.
Georgetown managed only 26 percent shooting in the first half and hit 30 percent for the game.
Georgetown led only once (2-0), but it was halfway through the first half before Campbellsville could get its offense rolling. The Lady Tigers went on a 24-11 run after the game was tied at 4-4 four minutes in to the opening half.
"A lot of people think it's beneficial to sit the first game," said Colvin. "But we're still a young team and all this is new to most of our players."
Juliana Brown, the lone Lady Tiger senior, scored eight first-half points and ended the game in double figures with 11. Brown hit two big threes in the first half that helped power Campbellsville to a 30-15 lead at the intermission.
In all, Campbellsville saw three players score in double figures, led by All-Conference player Whitney Ballinger's double-double (15 points, 10 rebounds).
Campbellsville had good scoring balance and its defense forced 17 Georgetown turnovers.
Scoring: Whitney Ballinger 15, Courtney Danis 11, Juliana Brown 11, Wendi Messer 9, Kristie Ensminger 7, Jarobia Hill 4, Melly Heaton 2, T.J. Thomas 2 and Megan Isaacs 2.
