Georgetown got five runs on two homers and scored all the runs it would need to beat Campbellsville 9-4 in the Mid-South Conference Baseball Tournament finals on Friday afternoon at CU. The loss forces an if-necessary game on at CU on Saturday (weather permitting).
Â
Campbellsville was playing from behind all afternoon after Georgetown's Bryan Bonner hit a two-out, two-run shot in the first inning. Georgetown added three more runs in the second, all with two outs, while spraying five hits.
Georgetown chased Campbellsville starter Eric Mattos in the third after he hit Mike Steinke with a pitch. He was replaced by Bryan Fuller.
CU scored solo runs in the third and fourth innings. Logan Smith doubled in the third and scored on a fielder's choice. Collin Bryan scored in the fourth after receiving a free pass, took third on Chris Curley's single, and scored on a wild pitch.
Fuller was touched up for three runs in the fifth and didn't allow another run until the ninth after a couple of two-out singles plated Georgetown's final tally.
The loss drops Campbellsville's (the Mid-South's No. 1 seed) record to 34-10. Georgetown improves to 32-21.
Saturday's if-necessary game will start at 1:00.
