Campbellsville University's women's volleyball team is one of 21 teams nationwide to be named to the NAIA American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award."This is just another way to show the commitment of our student-athletes and coaches in regards to placing a priority on academics," said Rusty Hollingsworth, director of athletics at CU. "This is a great honor for our volleyball team and this university."
To be so honored, a team must have achieved at least a 3.3 cumulative team grade-point average.
Campbellsville is coached by Randy LeBleu.
"This result is just phenomenal," said AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoar. "Look at this in context: We have coaches representing about 3,000 different (NCAA schools included) academic institutions. Of that total, 254, or nearly 12 percent, coach teams with a grade-point average of 3.3 or better. How can you not be proud of that?"
The NAIA had 21 of its member schools achieve the honor this year, its third-highest total in the award's 18-year history.
