Box Score An early second-half goal by
Camilo Muller snapped a season-opening three-game losing skid and gave Campbellsville University its first men's soccer victory of the season, 2-1, at Union University in Jackson, Tenn.
Mueller scored the unassisted goal in the 47th minute of play, the first time this season the Tigers have found the back of the net twice in the same game. CU jumped on the board early against the Bulldogs (1-4) with an unassisted goal from
Ramiro Sanchez in the 11th minute. Union evened the score in the 30th minute with a goal from Nic Desio off an assist by Rafael Carvalho.
The win is Campbellsville's first over the TranSouth Athletic Conference school in the past decade, losing 6-0 in 2005 and 4-0 in 2003.
Possession was fairly even on paper, as the Tigers posted 11 shots in the game to the Bulldogs' 10. Each team had two corner kick opportunities. Seven of the Tigers' shots were on target, as Union goalkeeper J. Landham posted five saves.
James Clements stopped three of the four shots he faced for the Tigers.
CU (1-3) will return to action Saturday at 6 p.m. (EST) in the Union University Soccer Classic to challenge the defending NAIA men's soccer national champions Bethel College (3-0-1).
