Lady Tigers stung by Cedarville, 4-0

Cedarville University snapped a three-game losing skid this season to shut out Campbellsville University, 4-0, Saturday after losing the previous two years to the Lady Tigers.

Campbellsville's defense managed to block a few early scoring opportunities, but Cedarville (2-3) found the net three times in the final 23 minutes of the first half. Sophomore midfielder Jill Carroll headed a corner kick from Jamie Watkins past Tiger goalkeeper Sarah Akers in the 22nd minute of play. Watkins added an assist in the 31st minute, as Kelsey Watkins gave the Yellow Jackets a 2-0 lead. Rachel Brownfield came off the bench and added a third first-half goal in the 35th minute of play.

While the Lady Tigers were able to get off a few solid shots in the second half, Cedarville continued to keep the Lady Tigers off the scoreboard. Linsday Raybuck pushed the ball down field and added Cedarville's final goal with just over four minutes to play in the game.

"
We came out flat and were beaten to every ball. They wanted it more than we did," Campbellsville head coach Thom Jones said. "I believe this game was a wakeup call for our team in that they are going to have to work harder for 90 minutes, if they want to be as good as they could be."

Campellsville (3-2) hosts Cumberland University on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
