The road warriors, better known as the Campbellsville University's
volleyball team, took third place at the Hanover College Invitational
Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 win over Capital University (14-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-20).
Campbellsville, which is 10-2 after 12 road matches, will finally
return home on Monday when it hosts Cumberland University at 7:00 in
the Powell Athletic Center.
"It's going to be great to get off the road and in front of a home crowd," said coach
Randy LeBleu.
The Lady Tigers were bumped from championship consideration in the two-day tourney when Maryville College beat them Saturday morning 3-1 (23-25, 15-25, 25-19, 21-25).
"We played poor on defense," said LeBleu.
Maryville, which plays NCAA Division 3 in the Great South Athletic Conference, came into the game undefeated. The Lady Scots were beaten by Centre in the final. Maryville has been champions of the Great South seven of the past nine seasons.
In the third-place game, LeBeau said his squad passed the ball better and ran better offensive sets.
Samantha James, a sophomore from Louisville, was named to the all-tournament team.
