Campbellsville University gave itself a little more room between second and third place in the Mid-South Conference with a doubleheader sweep of the University of Rio Grande on Wednesday.
CU beat the third-place Red Storm (9-10, 6-4 MSC) in three sets both matches, as they improved to 17-5 overall and 6-1 in the MSC, only one game back of conference leader Georgetow College.
The Lady Tigers took both matches in three sets, winning the first 25-12, 25-13, 25-16, and the second 25-22, 25-20, 25-16.
Renee Netherton had 17 kills in the two matches, while Samantha James had 16 and Brooke Marcum had 15. Caroline Martini had 52 assists. Caitlin Dressing led the defense with 13 digs in the second match and 17 for the two combined.
Campbellsville travels to St. Charles, Mo., to compete in the Lindenwood University Tournament. The Lady Tigers meet Evangel University and Lindenwood on Friday and Baker University and Missouri Baptist College on Saturday.
