Lady Tigers shut out Bluefield

Campbellsville University women's soccer shut out Bluefield College, 5-0, Friday to even its record at 1-1.

The Lady Tigers scored two penalty kicks in the first 20 minutes of play, as Megan Campbell and Ashley Corum each netted the goals. Corum later followed with a second goal, while Kelsey Mandel and Cassie Yannelli each scored a goal.

Sarah Akers collected her first collegiate shutout with 14 saves.

Campbellsville had 29 shots on goal.

"We're winning 50-50 balls," CU head coach Thom Jones said. "We beat them to the ball and we'd posess it. That was the key. We beat them to every ball and played keep away."

CU (1-1) will face Bryan Colle at 2 p.m. Saturday.
