Campbellsville improved to 19-5 (7-1) with a straight-set win Tuesday night at University of Virginia Wise, 25-22, 25-13, 25-13.
The win sets up a matchup tomorrow night against the conference's second best team in the East Division - Rio Grande - which has done something this season the Tigers have been unable to do - beat Georgetown a set.
After winning ugly in the first set, the Tigers used five consecutive service points by
Audrey Sanders to expand a 13-6 lead to 18-6.
Monica Chernichan had six kills in the set and
Caroline Martin collected her 25th assist in the first two sets.
Leading 15-10 in the third,
Giselle Hernandez served seven straight points to support an insurmountable 22-10 lead.
Shannan Cahill and Chernichan led the team in kills with 15 and 17, respectively. Martin ended up with 38 assists and
Audrey Sanders and Cahill were dig leaders with 10 and seven, respectively. Sanders served three aces.
Rio Grande, Wednesday's opponent, beat Georgetown, the conference's only undefeated team, 25-18 on Monday in the first set of a four-set loss. The Red Storm lost sets two and three and then stretched the fourth set until Georgetown finally prevailed 26-24.
Wednesday's match begins at 5:00 in the Powell Athletic Center.
