Entering overtime, Campbellsville University junior
Casey Clarke told coach
Adam Preston he was going to take a chance. That chance was a 20-yard shot with only 1:08 into a golden goal overtime to give the Tigers a 1-0 win over King College in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Mid-East Region semifinal.
"We knew he was our guy. Casey took it upon himself to win it, and he did. he worked all summer on that exact shot, and here's the time he needed it the most and he pulled it out," Preston said.
Both teams were held scoreless in regulation thanks to a midfield battle most of the game. Campbellsville had two chances go off the post in the first half and
Jamie Allen was unable to finish on a one-on-one opportunity for the Tigers, according to Preston.
King managed to post three shots on goal, as
James Clements stopped all three en route to the shutout. Campbellsville had seven shots on goal.
Campbellsville (16-5) will meet Oakland City University in the Mid-East final Saturday at 2 p.m. OCU tied Covenant College, 2-2, Friday but advanced by winning a penalty kick shootout, 5-4.
