Volley Tigers earn NCCAA Mid-East semifinal spot with 3-0 win over Covenant

BRISTOL, Tenn. - Campbellsville opened defense of its NCCAA Mid-East Region volleyball title with a straight-set match victory over Covenant College Friday at King College in Bristol, Tenn., 25-12, 25-14, 25-14.



The Lady Tigers, the No. 1 seed and playing in Pool A, will meet Oakland City today at 7:00. The top two teams in Pool A and B will meet in Saturday's semifinals.

Campbellsville secured a spot in Saturday's NCCAA Mid-East Region Volleyball Tournament semifinals thanks to a 3-0 win over Covenant (Ga.) College.

Campbellsville started with a 25-12 victory with two straight 25-14 scores to finish off the match.

The winner between Campbellsville and Oakland City wins the pool, but both teams will play on Saturday in semifinal contests.

Covenant's 2010 season comes to an end at 19-15.

Campbellsville's Monica Chernichan led the team with 13 kills and she also served two aces with a dozen kills from Shannon Cahill. Samantha James added eight kills.

Carolina Martin posted a double-double for Campbellsville with 33 assists and a dozen digs. Audrey Sanders paced Campbellsville with 13 digs.
