Lady Tigers set scoring records in 124-44 win over Wilberforce

A dozen Lady Tigers played each more than 12 minutes Tuesday as the fourth-ranked Campbellsville University Lady Tigers put together a record-breaking performance in a 124-44 win over Wilberforce University.

"They've scored in the 80s in both games so far, so we were real pleased holding them below 50," CU head coach Ginger Colvin said. "A good thing about this game is you minutes for a lot of players that need minutes."

Campbellsville put together a performance that could have shattered a 35-year-old record of 128 points in a game. However, Colvin cleared her bench early in the second half, letting her second and third wave of players collect an average 14-17 minutes of play and a combined 56 points in the game.

In the first half alone, the Lady Tigers put up 69 points, breaking the previous record of 66 points in a half against Spalding University in 1994.

Leading the way for CU was All-American post player Whitney Ballinger, who played only 19 minutes, but posted a stat line of 20 points, eight rebounds, four blocks, three assists and two steals. Her fourth block gives her 269 in her 71-game career, tying the Lady Tiger's career record. Andrea Deaton set the record in her 127-game career from 1991-95.

First-year Lady Tiger Courtney Clifton scored 19 points, while starting point guard Mackenzie Lee had 15 points.

Lee and Ballinger combined for a 15-of-15 performance from the field, while Clifton also had seven made field goals. The trio contributed for 22 of CU's record 51 made field goals in the game. CU's previous single-game field goal high was 48 against Berea College in 1982 and St. Catharine College this past February.

Also scoring in double figures were Millie Deason (12) and Megan Isaacs (10). Deason matched the Lady Tiger's all-time blocks leader block-for-block, as she had four in the game and ties Ballinger for the season lead with nine.

Each Lady Tiger collected at least two points, an assist and at least one rebound or steal. CU shot 65.4 percent from the field in the win.

Campbellsville (2-0) will travel to Bethel University to take on the No. 19 Wildcats on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 5 p.m. ET. The Lady Tigers' next game was scheduled to be Friday, Nov. 12 against Wilberforce in Bethel University's Rotary Classic, but the game was canceled last week.
