Lady Tigers heat up in second half to race by Georgetown 90-63

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Lady Tigers busted open a close game early in the second half to defeat Georgetown and go to 2-0 in the Mid-South, 90-63.

The Lady Tigers led by 10 at half, 44-34, and Georgetown cut it to six early in the second half before Courtney Clifton and Whitney Ballinger took over.

Georgetown scored first, and took its only lead of the night with a quick bucket from Kourtney Tyra. But Campbellsville answered back as Whitney Ballinger scored her first of what would turn into a 32-point effort.

Campbellsville took momentum fast with a Melly Heaton fast-break bucket off her own steal, her first of an 11-point afternoon. CU would remain unanswered 10-2 until a Ballinger foul sent Georgetown's Gina Beining to the line for two, hitting them both.

Ballinger led all scorers at the break with 22, as Campbellsville's Courtney Clifton had seven of her own.

Georgetown started the second half with a pair of easy buckets by Jessica Waddle and Ashley Prince. But Campbellsville would once again regain momentum with a trio of unanswered Courtney Clifton 3-pointers. Clifton would finish the game with 22 points, shooting 5-7 from behind the arc.

"Courtney stepped up when Whit came to the bench after her third foul," said coach, Ginger Colvin. "We have a good supporting cast, I also really liked (Courtney) Danis' ability to play aggressive and get to the line again today."

Danis went 3-5 from the line, scoring five points.

Campbellsville's largest lead of the night, 29, would come from a Hayley Hellyer layup with four minutes left.

The Lady Tigers don't play again until Saturday when they host Union University in a 6 p.m. tipoff in the Powell Athletic Center.
