It took the Campbellsville softball team a few innings to find its
grove as the Lady Tigers split their season opening double-header with
Freed-Hardeman in the Martin Methodist College Meltdown, losing the
first game 5-1 and winning the second 10-2.
Doing all of its pre-season practice indoors, the Lady Tigers found the
Pulaski, Tenn. outdoors a little unfamiliar as Freed pelted nine hits
off CU's
Cassidy Kroeker. After Campbellsville took a one-run lead in
the first inning when lead-off batter
Emma Napier took home on a passed
ball, the Lady Tigers proceeded to strand 10 base runners the rest of
the game.
Napier had a double in the game to go along two walks,
Bailey Dillender had two singles and
Kacie Vincent and
Allison Horton a single apiece.
Freed-Hardeman tied the game in the third before going ahead with three runs in the fourth and another in the sixth.
But in game two, the Lady Tigers collected six hits and benefitted from 10 base on balls. They also got five solid innings on the mound from senior
Allison Horton who fired a six-hitter while walking one and striking out six.
Napier's double in the fourth scored two runs. She also drew three walks. Others getting hits were: Dillender, 2B and 3RBI; Alex Jane Clements, 1B and 2B and 2 RBI;
Katelyn Daniel, 1B; and
Stephanie Weathers, 2B and 2 RBI.

It doesn't get any easier for CU as they face the NAIA's pre-season No. 8-ranked host team Saturday morning (weather permitting) at 10 and then No. 25 McKendree in the fourth game of the four-game weekend set.
