Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Eighth-ranked Campbellsville University lost consecutive games for the first time this season Monday, losing game one of a double header, 6-4, Monday after losing the second game of a double-header on Sunday. The Tigers responded though to even its record for the season at 4-4 with a 5-4 win in the night cap over the Warriors.

In game one, Campbellsville cut a 2-0 Tech lead in half with an RBI single from Alex Ponich. Luke Gadow stole second early in the at bat to set up the Tigers' first run of the day.

Tech answered with a two-run home run from Wes Smith in the top of the fourth to stretch the lead to 4-1. CU pushed another run across in the bottom of the fourth, but the Warriors added two more in the fifth with the bases loaded and one out. CU ended the Tech scoring threat with double play at home and first.

Down 6-2, Ponich added two more Tiger runs with his second home run in two days, but CU was unable to pull out the win. It was the first win of the season for Tech pitcher Daniel Puckett and the second save for reliever Corey Schwartz. Curtis Payne (0-1) recorded the loss for CU.

Indiana Tech's bats remained hot in the second game, taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but Campbellsville quickly answered with a two-run homer by Richie Rowland in the bottom of the first.

Pitcher Michael Caleb helped himself out from the plate, as he doubled in Ponich in the fourth to tie the game, 3-3, and later singled in Jameel Ziadeh for an insurance run in the fifth. CU took the lead in the fourth, 4-3, on a ground out by Luke Gadow that scored Jordan Alves.

Tech rallied in the sixth to load the bases and add a run, but Campbellsville escaped a jam by trapping the Warriors in a run down between third and home on a full count and two outs. Catcher Logan Smith ran down Jeremy Jones and applied the tag two steps from third base to end the inning with CU leading, 5-4.

Caleb (1-0) recorded his first win of the season, lasting 5 1/3 innings, allowing four earned runs off six hits and two walks. He struck out five. Rusty Devitt closed the game on the mound for the Tigers, picking up his first save in his third appearance.

Trevor Oetting took the loss, allowing four CU runs off four hits and two walks. He exited the game with no outs in the fourth.

Campbellsville is scheduled to host Huntington University (Ind.) for a double header Friday at 1 p.m. and Saturday at noon.
