Campbellsville softball tripped Midway twice on Tuesday - 8-0 and 10-3 -
to run its overall record to 22-12 and extend its win streak to five
games.
The Tigers have won 11 of their last 12 outings, and get back into
conference play, and will attempt to protect their league leading 10-2
MSC slate, on Saturday when they hosts Georgetown in a double header at
Veterans Memorial Park. They then hit the road Tuesday at Cumberlands
for another twin bill.
In game one,
Alex Jane Clemmons continued her torrid pace at the plate
with a double and a home run and three RBI.
Jordan Cornett also had a
big game at the plate, with two hits, three runs scored and two stolen
bases.
The Tigers broke open a scoreless game in the fourth when Cornett singled and scored on Clemmons' sacrifice fly to left. CU scored three more times in the fifth when
Katie Daniel was hit by a pitch and
Kacie Vincent singled. Daniel then scored on a passed ball and Cornett scored on a Midway error.
Jennifer England's two-bagger plated
Bailey Dillender, who reached on an error.
CU added a run in the sixth when Clemmons' leadoff double ended up being an RBI when Daniel's singled. Three more runs were added in the seventh on Clemmons' three-run homer.
Allison Horton gave up four hits and walked only one in her shutout performance. Horton allowed only 11 hits in the two games and struck out eight.
In game two, the Tigers rallied from a 1-0 deficit in the third when they scored eight runs. Dillender had a two-run home run, Clemmons a two-run double and three of the other four runs were plated by singles from
Emma Napier, Daniel and Cornett.
Midway scored two runs in the fourth and then Campbellsville closed out the scoring with a two-run single by Dillender in the seventh.
Several players had bigs days at the plate, led by Clemmons 3 for 7, five RBI performance. Dillender had four RBI, England three RBI, Napier and Cornett scored three runs apiece and Daniel was efficient on a 2 for 4 day with two RBI and a like number of runs scored.
