Box Score 2 Campbellsville's third home doubleheader this season set up the Tigers' first three-game win streak with a sweep of Huntington University, 4-3 and 10-0, Friday.
While CU needed 10 innings to edge the Foresters, 4-3, in game one, it only needed five innings in game two.
Logan Smith blasted a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to jump start an eight-run inning that enforced the 10-run rule for the Tigers' 10-1 game-two victory.
Jameel Ziadeh followed Smith's homer with a double and scored on an RBI single by
Colin Bryan to give CU a 6-0 lead with one out. Later in the inning, with two outs,
Alex Ponich patiently drew a walk to load the bases.
Zach Townsend and
Richie Rowland each hit two-RBI singles to seal the win for CU.
Bryan drove in Ziadeh for the Tigers' first run of the game in the second inning. CU took a 2-0 lead in the fourth when Bryan scored on an RBI double by
Craig Edwards.
Eric Mattos (1-0) got the complete game win, allowing only one hit and striking out six.
In game one, Ziadeh turned a 3-1 pitch into a game winning single in the bottom of the 10
th to score Hawkins from second base.
CU trailed the entire game, tying it up in the bottom of the seventh, 3-3, on an RBI single by Rowland. Ponich doubled with one out and scored the tying run. Michael Caleb later drew a two-out walk to load the bases for the Tigers, but all three runners were left stranded after an Edwards strikeout.
Huntington scored two in the first on a two-out single by Ryan Shell, who later scored on a wild pitch by Jared Lunardi. Campbellsville cut the lead down to a run in the third. Rowland singled in Ponich for the first run and Zach Townsend scored CU's second run on a sacrifice fly by Smith.
Campbellsville out-hit Huntington 12-8 in the game but left 12 runners on base. Ian Pick (1-0) picked up the win in relief. He took over for the Tigers in the top of the eighth. Through three innings, he allowed three hits and struck out two. Lunardi struck out eight as the starting pitcher. He gave up two earned runs off five hits and two walks.
Brian Kirschbaum was the losing pitcher for Huntington.
Campbellsville (6-4) will host Huntington (1-5) for another doubleheader Saturday at noon.
