Campbellsville could managed but three hits in a 2-1 loss to Georgetown
on Saturday, but rebounded with an nine-hit attack in game two to split a
softball double header with Georgetown, winning the second 9-3.
The loss enabled Lindsey Wilson to tie the Tigers for the Mid-South
Conference lead, both teams with three loses. Campbellsville travels on
Tuesday to Cumberlands for a pivotal double header against the Patriots.
In game one, Campbellsville took a 1-0 lead in the second inning with an
Alex Jane Clemmons leadoff home run. The other two CU hits were by
Bailey Dillender and
Kacie Vincent.
Georgetown salted away the victory with a two-spot in the top of the sixth.
Allison Horton gave up six hits, walked two and fanned five. The Tigers left seven runners stranded.
In game two, after a 2-2 first-inning tie, the Tigers responded with a four-run second, a two-run third and a solo score in the fifth.
CU had nine hits, a triple by
Morgan Bullock and doubles by
Jennifer England, Clemmons and
Katie Daniel. Singles were recorded by England,
Emma Napier,
Jordan Cornett and Clemmons.
In the first inning, Dillender scored on a bases-loaded walk and England singled in a run.
With the score tied at 2-all, Daniel and Napier hit consecutive doubles. Cornett reached on an error and Dillender was intentionally walked. Clemmons picked up an RBI with a walk and then Bullock's single plated two more runs.
Campbellsville did all its damage in the third with two outs. Napier walked and Cornett singled and, after Dillender was intentionally walked for the second straight time, England's double plated two runs.
The Tigers' final run came in the fifth when Vincent walked and scored later on Dillender's ground ball.
