Box Score Campbellsville University women's soccer recorded its first win of the season
Friday with a 1-0 victory over Bryan College in the NCCAA Mid-East Region
Classic at Covenant College.
Campbellsville freshman goalkeeper Brandie Hagerman and Bryan freshman
Stephanie Gagnon battled to a shutout for 74 1/2 minutes. But that ended when
Gagnon was carded and ejected for tripping CU freshman Jessica Ralph (Owensboro,
Ky.) during a one-on-one inside the box. The play set up a penalty kick for sophomore
Ashley Corum (Radcliff, Ky.), who netted Campbellsville's first goal of the season with 15:30
left to play.
Hagerman finished the game with six saves and her first collegiate shutout.
Campbellsville switched its formation this week, moving from a 3-4-3 to a more
defensive, yet balanced attacking 4-4-2. Despite having only two forwards, CU led
in shots 14-11.
"(The new formation) seemed to really work," CU head coach Thom Jones said. "We
played really well. I thought we dominated the game, we just had a hard time
finishing."
Campbellsville (1-1) will look to defend its
NCCAA Mid-East Region Classic title when it faces host Covenant College at 1:30
p.m. Saturday. The game will be a rematch of last year's postseason NCCAA
Mid-East Region Tournament final, also played at Covenant in Lookout Mountain,
Ga. Covenant won the 2009 postseason battle, 1-0.
