Tigers knock off No. 23 Indiana Tech

Box Score Campbellsville University's returning leading scorer Ramiro Sanchez made his 2010 debut Friday night in Fort Wayne, Ind., and picked up right where he left off. The Columbian sophomore netted a goal and collected an assist as the Tigers knocked off No. 23 Indiana Tech, 3-1, in the NAIA Showcase at the University of St. Francis (Ind.).

"Ramiro adds so much to the attack," CU head coach Adam Preston said. "He's so powerful and he opens things up for Jamie (Allen)."

Sanchez assisted Allen in the 44th minute on the eventual game-winner to sent the Tigers into halftime with a 2-1 lead.

Pontus Yngve scored the first goal of the game in the 31st minute on an assist from Casey Clarke, but Tech evened the score eight minutes later on an Elliott Everson goal, assisted by Sam Terman.

Sanchez's goal came in the 67th minute to round out scoring.

Preston was glad to remain unbeaten on the year, but knows there's still work to be done.

"We're not playing pretty this year at all, but we're very effective," Preston said. "We're lethal on the attack and our midfield is doing the unsung things that are needed to win championships despite how un-pretty it looked."

Senior goalkeeper James Clements made his first start of the season for CU and recorded six saves. Each team had 11 shots in the game.

Campbellsville (2-0) will face host school St. Francis (1-2) on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Cougars lost Friday, 2-1, to Trinity International in overtime.
