Sanchez leads CU past Mid-Continent, 2-1

Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Campbellsville University escaped an aggressive game Tuesday night with a 2-1 victory over Mid-Continent University at Finley Stadium's HIG Field.
 



A total of 11 cards were issued in the physical battle, including a red card in the 52nd minute that left the visiting Cougars playing a man down the remainder of the game and left the Tigers without starting forward Adam Fridell, who was injured on the play.

Campbellsville took an early 1-0 lead in the 14th minute when Jean-Luc Heidrich scored his first career goal as a Tiger off an assist from Pontus Yngve.

Mid-Continent took advantage of one of the Tigers' yellow cards though in the 72nd minute, as Gilles Nziengui scored on a free kick from Rafael Alves to even the score.

The 1-1 tie, brought extra intensity for both teams, including bringing junior forward Ramiro Sanchez off the bench. Sanchez, who sat for more than 75 minutes in his first game cleared from injury, netted the game-winner for the Tigers in the 85th minute.

Mid-Continent rallied with numerous shots in the final two minutes, but the Tigers locked down the box for the win.

A total of five goals were disallowed in the game. The Tigers had two called off by fouls from Jordan Adams and John Kennedy on headers and two on offsides calls in the 63rd and 88th minutes. The Cougars were also stripped of a netted ball in the first half after being called offsides.

Tiger goalkeeper Kyle Thomas had four saves in the win. MCU keeper Adam Lewis had two.

Campbellsville (5-6-2) will return to Finley Stadium's HIG Field on Thursday to host No. 25 Tennessee Wesleyan College at 6 p.m. ET.
