SAVANNAH, Ga. - Campbellsville discovered the mystery element that it had lost on Friday and won two volleyball matches Saturday to escape the Savannah College of Art & Design's Tournament with a four-match split.
"We moved with purpose," said Coach Amy Eckenfels after her team dispatched Ave Maria in three sets and Montreat in four. "They worked well as one and showed great effort."
But what Eckenfels really liked was that her team was able to eliminate unforced errors.
The Lady Tigers scrubbed Ave Maria 25-12, 25-18 and 25-13 to improve to 13-11. Then in four sets, CU (14-11, 5-1) rallied from a 24-26 first-set loss to Montreat and won out 25-23, 25-23 and 25-16.
"We had a plan for every ball today," said Eckenfels.
Monica Chernichan continued her strong hitting with 12 kills and a .500 hitting percentage.
Laura DeGear and
Samantha James chipped in with 10 kills each.
Lilian DaSilva set up 22 assists and freshman
Jackie Schwieger had 11.
Caitlin Dresing led the team with 18 digs.
In the match against Montreat, Chernichan again led the Lady Tigers with 14 kills followed by
Genevieve Collette (12) and
Shannon Cahill (10). DaSilva (31) and Schwieger (19) shared 50 of the teams 52 assists. Four players reached double figures in digs, led by Dresing's 19. Cahill had 17, DaSilva 14 and
Audrey Sanders 12.
Campbellsville will host Trevecca Nazarene, a team it has split matches with already this year, losing on Sept. 10 in five sets and winning Sept. 16 in four. The match starts at 6:00.
