Lady Tigers drop Trevecca in three sets

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Campbellsville Univeristy volleyball improved to 2-1 on the year against Trevecca Nazarene Unviersity with a three-set victory Tuesday night in Powell Athletic Center. It was the first non-neutral site match of the season between the two schools, with TNU winning the first one in early September, but the Lady Tigers winning the second the following week.

Tuesday, Campbellsville rolled past Trevecca, a new member to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) with scores of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-11.

Shannon Cahill powered Campbellsville through the first set with seven kills. Fifteen Lady Tiger points came off kills to start CU's offense for the night.

In the second set, Campbellsville held a narrow 5-3 lead before breaking the game wide open for a 14-5 lead. A kill by TNU's Brittany Eller ended the Lady Tigers' run and helped the Trojans cut the lead in half, 14-7. CU's lead never dropped below seven points though as the Lady Tigers stretched their lead to double figures for the first time in the set, 20-10, en route to the 25-15 win. Laura DeGear, a transfer from Cumberland University, led Campbellsville in the set with six kills against her former TranSouth foe.

Set three went quick, as the Tigers put away the Trojans, 25-11. CU scored only 9 kills in the set and scored six points by blocks.

CU (12-8) will return home Thursday night for its Dig Pink game against St. Catharine College at 7 p.m. ET. The junior varsity teams will play at 5 p.m.
