WILMORE, Ky. -- Campbellsville University's women's swimming wrapped up the Asbury University Invitational on Saturday by qualifying for four more NAIA Championship events. The Lady Tigers have now qualified for a total of seven national championship events this fall.
The Lady Tigers started the day by qualifying its 200-yard medley relay team and later added the 800-yard freestyle team to its list of relay qualifiers. Individually,
Alison Lee and
Brooke Cato qualified in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle, respectively.
Prior to Saturday, CU qualified its 400-yard medley relay team on Friday and qualified the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays in November.
"I'm very pleased with the results from this meet. My athletes worked hard and it showed in the five national qualifying cut times that they made. I am especially proud of the individual times made Saturday. Both Alison and Brooke looked so good," said Casey Smith, CU swim coach. "I had a few athletes swim events they don't normally swim, and they did really well. I'm looking forward to see how they can improve those times in the future."
Saturday also marked the final meet for the career of CU senior Yukino Nagata of Osaka, Japan. Nagata, who competed for CU in the 2010 NAIA Championships, will graduate Dec. 16 and return to her home country.
The Lady Tigers finished in third-place at the invitational as a team with 276 points. Centre College won the event with 924 points, while host Asbury was second with 851 points. Bethel University and St. Catharine were fourth and fifth. The NAIA Championships will be Feb. 29 to March 2 in Oklahoma City.
