MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Campbellsville University chipped away at a late 6-3 deficit but the Tigers' rally fell short in a 6-5 loss at Auburn University-Montgomery on Sunday.

Aaron Schwoebel led the Tigers' offense with two hits, including a two-out double in the third that led to the Tigers' first run. Baxley Raines evened the score for AUM in the bottom of the third, and the Senators took their first lead of the game, 2-1, with when Hunter Cross scored on a ground out RBI by Chezz McCann.
Schowebel helped regain the Tigers' lead in the fifth with an RBI single that scored Jameel Ziadeh. Rylan Chin, who was pinch running for Anthony Jakosa , also scored on the play due to a throwing error, giving Campbellsville a 3-2 lead.
Colton Brown got the start on the mound for the Tigers and lasted four innings before giving up a leadoff single in the fifth. Jeff Bjorklund took over and lasted only 2/3 of the fifth inning after giving up the go-ahead run to the Senators. Michael Caleb also gave up two runs in the fifth. Drew Petit and Andrew Shoemaker also saw time on the mound in the sixth through eighth innings.
Gibby Briones drove in a run in the seventh with a sac fly to left field to score Luke Gadow. Chin cut the difference to one run with a solo home run to start the eighth inning. It was the first hit of his CU career. But the Tigers' rally fell short in the ninth, leaving two runners stranded in the ninth.
Campbellsville (0-4) will return home next weekend to host Huntington University for a three-game set Feb. 25 and 26 and then two games against McKendree University on Feb. 26 and Feb. 27. CU will host a double header against Huntington at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25 at Tiger Baseball Field (204 Tiger Way, Campbellsville).
