PULASKI, Tenn. -
Alex Jane Clemmons hit a grand slam homer in the fourth and Campbellsville went on to defeat Reinhardt 7-5 for its first win of the season Sunday on the third day of the Martin Methodist Meltdown Tournament.
Campbellsville collected nine hits in the game, three by
Kacie Vincent and two by leadoff hitter
Emma Napier.
Jordan Cornett added two hits and
Alyssa Barker one.
CU (1-5) trailed 1-0 to Reinhardt before Clemmons' tater cleared the bases.
Taylor Wroe picked up the win, going four innings before accepting three innings of two-hit relief from
Courtney Turpin. Napier had a double in the game. She and Vincent each had a stolen base.
In the final game of the tournament, the Tigers got behind 5-3 after three frames and never recovered against Martin Methodist, losing 9-4.
CU collected eight hits, but gave up 14 to Martin. After closing the gap to 5-3, Martin pushed across four runs in the fourth. CU scored a solo run in the sixth.
Bailey Dillender led CU with three hits and three RBI. Napier, Clemmons (RBI) and
Hannah Reynolds all had hits.
Campbellsville travels to Shorter University in Rome, Ga. for games Friday and Saturday.
