CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - It didn't come easy, but the Lady Tigers separated at the end to defeat Lindsey Wilson, 76-67, Thursday in the Powell Athletic Center.
"We needed that," said coach
Ginger Colvin. "The last six or seven games have come too easy for us."
Campbellsville had its 11-point half-time lead cut to three with five minutes to go in the game.
Mackenzie Lee scored the game's next five points and CU went up six and then outscored the Lady Raiders 9-6 the rest of the way.
"We found some areas we can work on, for sure," said Colvin. "They made us execute in the half court and we didn't really do a very good job of it at times."
CU (24-3, 16-1) Led by 16 in the first half when
Whitney Ballinger hit two free throws for a 36-20 advantage. But Ballinger may have had one of her worst games as a Lady Tiger (10 points and seven rebounds).
"We battled and really had some people step up when we needed it."
Courtney Clifton led five Lady Tigers into double figures.
Courtney Danis had 16 and
Mackenzie Lee,
Megan Isaacs and Ballinger had 13, 10 and 10, respectively.
With Campbellsville up 69-65, Danis canned a 3 at the 1:40 mark and a couple of Clifton charity tosses pushed the lead to 74-67.
Lindsey's Ashley Rainey led all scorers with 29. Her post mate, Victoria Krell, had 16.
"I really think Lindsey Wilson (21-7, 12-5) is one of the best teams in the country," said Colvin. "They have the best post duo in the country. We were really fortunate to get by with this one."
The Lady Tigers will celebrate Senior Day Saturday against University of the Cumberlands. Tipoff is 2 p.m.
