CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Trailing by one midway through the first half,
the Lady Tigers reeled off a 27-8 finish to the half and buried West
Virginia Tech, 94-75. The win moves Campbellsville to 19-3, 12-1, good
enough to continue its stranglehold on first place in the Mid-South
race.
But CU Coach
Ginger Colvin might consider a career change to dentistry.
Her team has had a propensity to look like a root canal at times. It
took a defensive switch leading to 18 first-half Tech turnovers that
reversed fortunes. During an 11-0 first-half run,
Alexia Williams had
five straight points punctuated by
Melly Heaton's second 3 of the half.
"It felt like a root canal," said Colvin. "We started pressing and got some easy buckets and they got a little winded.
"Our press gave us what we should have had in the half court. But we had two highly charged emotional games and we just didn;t have the focus and intensity early."
Whitney Ballinger moved in to the fifth spot among all-time Lady Tiger scorers with a 28 performance, giving her 1,789. Ballinger also had eight assists, two blocks, five steals and three rebounds.
Courtney Danis put in another nice game with 18 points and three assists.
Melly Heaton six points inched her closer to the 1,000-Point Club, Heaton needs 17 more to reach that benchmark.
Campbellsville out-rebounded the Lady Bears 56-37.
Tech was led by Amber Tulley's 21. Shyla Jones, who Colvin says could play for any team in the conference, got in foul trouble and scored 12 points. The loss moved tech to 14-9, 5-6.
The Lady Tigers go on a two-game road trip, starting Thursday in Pikeville, and then on to Uva.-Wise, which has taken down two ranked teams in it's last three games.
