Box Score 2 ST. CATHARINE, Ky. -- The Tigers' bats came alive to start its first road Mid-South Conference series Saturday. Campbellsville University scored 13 runs on 13 hits, including three home runs to take game one of a four-game series, 13-7, at St. Catharine College. CU split the doubleheader though, losing the second game, 3-2.
Campbellsville trailed 5-3 after three innings, but evened the score in the fourth. The Tigers gained their first lead in the fourth with a pair of runs before exploding for eight runs in the fifth. SCC put two on the board in the seventh.
Ryaln Chin led CU on the day with four RBIs, including three in the first game. He was 1-for-3 in game one with a double. Craig Edwards, Michael Durham and Gabriel Arcoleo each drove in two runs and all hit home runs in the first game.
Sean Bouthilette recorded the win for the Tigers, allowing five earned runs on six hits and four walks through five innings. Jeff Bjorklund closed out the game for CU, allowing two runs in the seventh and giving up four hits.
Campbellsville dropped the second game, 3-2, after Patrick Jones hit a two-run homer in the third to give St. Catharine a 2-1 lead. The Tigers tied it in the fourth, but SCC answered with an RBI single by Ryan Mangione in the bottom of the fourth to regain the lead. Rylan Chin and Anthony Jakosa drove in the Tigers' runs.
Rusty Devitt took the loss in the second game, giving up three earned runs on four hits and four walks. Andrew Shoemaker pitched the final two innings of relief for CU, retiring five of the six batters faced. He walked one and struck out three.
Timmy Paxton recorded the win for the Patriots, despite allowing eight hits and two walks. Brad Krohman picked up the save.
Campbellsville (5-9, 2-2 MSC) returns to action at St. Catharine Sunday at 1 p.m. ET for a MSC doubleheader.
