Box Score LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Campbellsville University scored seven runs in the first three innings to pull out an 8-6 win at NCAA Division II school Bellarmine University Thursday at Knights Field.
The Tigers put up a four-spot in to start the game, as designated hitter
Michael McBride doubled in a pair of runs with two outs.
Michael Durham followed with a double to score McBride and scored on an RBI single by Aaron Schowebel.
The Knights answered in the bottom of the first with a five-run inning on three hits.
Anthony Wirkkala walked the bases loaded to start the third and gave up the Knights' first run after hitting first baseman David Weinstein. Wirkkala, who exited after the first inning, worked out of the jam with a ground out to second to strand the bases juiced.
Anthony Rossetto led off the second inning with a walk and scored on a ground ball by
Jameel Ziadeh to even the score, 5-5.
Gabriel Arcoleo doubled to start the third and later scored the go-ahead run for the Tigers on an RBI single by Rossetto. McBride scored an insurance run, and eventual winning run, on an RBI fielder's choice by
Gibby Briones.
The Tigers had only one base runner over the next four innings, but stretched their lead in the eigth with a sac fly RBI by Ziadeh to score
Anthony Jakosa. Bellarmine attempted to rally in the ninth, after loading the bases with one out. Bellarmine pushed one run across, but
Michael Caleb struck out Weinstein to end the game and record his first save of the season.
Jeff Bjorklund (1-1) recorded his first win with the Tigers after pitching three scoreless innings and allowing only two hits. He struck out four.
The win gives Campbellsville the advantage in the all-time series record, 19-18-1, and is the 15th against Bellarmine for head coach
Beauford Sanders.
Campbellsville (8-9, 4-2 MSC) hosts Lindsey Wilson College (13-9, 5-1 MSC) four a four-game series this weekend at Tiger Baseball Field. Campbellsville is one game behind the MSC West-leading Blue Raiders. The rivals will compete in a doubleheader Friday at 3 p.m. ET and again in a doubleheader Saturday at 3 p.m. ET.
