Box Score 2 CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- A trio of home runs helped pace Campbellsville University's offense Saturday at Tiger Field, as CU swept another Mid-South Conference doubleheader over rival Lindsey Wilson College, 5-0 and 10-3. The wins are the sixth and seventh straight for the Tigers, who maintain a one-game lead in the MSC West Division.
In game one, Campbellsville took a 2-0 lead in the third inning after Craig Edwards drew a one-out walk and scored on a sac fly by Michael Durham. Aaron Schowebel followed with an RBI base hit that drove in Gabriel Arcoleo, who doubled after Edwards' walk.
The Tigers added three more runs in the fourth, beginning with a leadoff homer by Gibby Briones, who was hitting in the nine-hole. Briones planted a 1-1 pitch over the left field fence for his first Tiger home run. CU collected four hits to start the fourth inning, as Danny Lapchak followed the home run with a double, then a single by Jameel Ziadeh. Edwards doubled down the right field line to score both and give CU its final run total for the game. CU threatened again in the sixth, but left two on base.
Michael McBride (2-1) recorded the four-hit shutout win, striking out seven and walking one in the complete-game effort. Daniel Pulliam recorded the loss after three innings of work, allowing five earned runs on six hits and four walks.
In the second game, CU jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning after Arcoleo hit a two-run shot to left for his second home run of the season. Lapchak led off the game with a walk and scored on the play. Ziadeh singled to follow the homer and scored on a triple by Tanner Scott, who later crossed home on a double by Durham. Anthony Rossetto knocked in Durham with a single before the Tigers batted around in the inning.
After a scoreless second inning, Durham hit his second home run of the season, a two-run shot that scored Ziadeh. After three, the Tigers held a 7-0 cushion. The score remained the same through five until Lindsey Wilson pushed across three runs in the top of the sixth off CU relief pitcher Ryan Richardson.
Richardson, who took over for starting pitcher Jacob Cook, allowed three runs, two earned, after Lindsey Wilson loaded the bases to start the inning. Drew Pettit took over for the Tigers and gave up a one-out, two-RBI single to Dustin Murphy. The Blue Raiders recorded their third run on a wild throw by Briones that scored Garrett Helm. Pettit got a fly ball to end the inning.
CU answered in the bottom of the sixth with three runs to reclaim its seven-run lead. Lapchak and Trent Seamons recorded RBI hits, while Briones scored the second run of the inning on a wild pitch.
Lindsey added two more base runners in the seventh on a walk and error, but both were stranded.
