Box Score LEBANON, Tenn. -- An offensive explosion in the first three innings was too much for Campbellsville University to rally back from Tuesday, as the Tigers fell to No. 1 Cumberland University in seven innings, 16-2.

The defending NAIA champs put up 16 runs in the first three innings, including an eight-run second innings.
Campbellsville didn't score its first run until the sixth when Danny Lapchak and Craig Edwards led off the innings with back-to-back singles. Lapchak later scored on a throwing error.
In the seventh, the Tigers pushed across another run after loading the bases with no outs. Aaron Schowebel led off the inning with a walk and scored when Luke Gadow was hit by a pitch. With the bases still loaded, the Tigers were retired with three straight pop-ups to the middle infield to end the game.
Cumberland collected a pair of home runs from second baseman Tommy Crews, who was 3-for-4 with seven RBIs. David Fanshawe and Cory Farris also each had home runs, both solo shots.
Campbellsville had six hits in the game, two by Lapchak and one each from Jameel Ziadeh, Schowebel, Anthony Jakosa and Edwards.
Andrew Shoemaker recorded the loss, giving up nine earned runs off seven hits and a walk. He lasted only an inning and a third. Colton Brown and Jeff Bjorklund also gave up runs, pitching an inning each. Drew Pettit and Gibby Briones also pitched for the Tigers.
Daniel Kern recorded the win for Cumberland, allowing one unearned run off five hits through six innings.
CU (12-10) hosts Kentucky State University for a doubleheader Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. EDT.
