Tigers fall at Trevecca, 8-4

Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Campbellsville University took an early 2-0 lead at Trevecca Nazarene University on Tuesday, but a seven-run fourth inning proved to be the difference, as Trevecca beat the Tigers, 8-4.

Michael Durham jumpstarted the Tigers’ bats with one out in the fourth, when he ripped a double down the right field line to extend his hit streak to 12 games. After Gabriel Arcoleo was hit by a pitch, Aaron Schwoebel singled to center to load the bases. Jameel Ziadeh drove in Durham for the Tigers’ first run with a fielder’s choice and Arcoleo scored on an error to give CU the early lead.

The bottom half of the fourth is where the damage was done. Trevecca pushed across seven earned runs in the inning, beginning with an RBI single by Edwin Borbon, who was 3-for-4 in game. Trae Weiss, who also had three hits, cleared the bases mid-way through the inning with a three-RBI double to left to give the Trojans the lead, 4-2. Trevecca added insurance with an RBI single by Matt Tidwell to score Weiss and a two-RBI double by Mitch McClay, who led off the inning with a single but was later tagged out in a squeeze attempt at the plate. McClay was the third Trojan with three hits in the game.

Campbellsville scored again in the fifth after Michael Caleb singled to start the inning and was driven in by Danny Lapchak’s RBI hit. Both teams added a run in the eighth. For the Tigers, Arcoleo led off the eighth with a single and was pinch ran for. Trent Seamons drove in the run with an RBI fielder’s choice. Trevecca added its run on a sac fly by Chad Reynolds.

Offensively for Campbellsville, Lapchak, Arcoleo, Schwoebel, Caleb and Rylan Chin each had two hits.

Michael McBride (5-2) took the loss for Campbellsville, allowing seven earned runs off seven hits and three walks. Jacob Cook pitched two scoreless innings in relief to follow McBride, while Colton Brown closed the game and allowed one earned run off two hits. Combined, the three Tigers struck out five.

Caleb Longshore recorded the win for Trevecca, allowing two earned runs in five innings of work. He allowed six hits and struck out two.

During the game, this week's NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll was released, with both teams still receiving votes. Campbellsville slid from No. 26 to No. 32 after posting a 1-3 week last week. Trevecca is currently No. 30.

Campbellsville (22-15) returns home Friday for a Mid-South Conference doubleheader against Shawnee State University, which is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. ET.
