England's blast sends Lady Tigers by Shawnee, 2-0, at MSC Tourney

DANVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville used a third-inning, two-run homer by Jennifer England and beat Shawnee State 2-0 in the opening round of the Mid-South Conference Softball Tournament at Millennium Park.

England's blast came after Kacie Vincent had singled to lead off the inning.

The Lady Tigers had three other hits in the game, all singles, by Morgan Bullock, Bailey Dillender and Alex Jane Clemmons.

Coach Shannon Wathen used Martina Riney for 2 2/3 innings before Riney gave way to Courtney Turpin with one on in the bottom of the third. Riney gave up three hits and hit a batter in her stint in the circle. Turpin set down the final out in the third on grounder to Dillender and then pitched a two-hitter the rest of the way - striking out four.

Vincent made two nice catches in center and Clemmons made a nice grab in left. The Lady Tigers hit into two double plays.

Shawnee's Ali Thompson struck out five Lady Tigers in her seven innings of work.

Shawnee, the No. 2 seed in the East, had five hits and stranded six.

Shawnee moves on the play St. Catharine in an elimination game today. Campbellsville will play the University of the Cumberlands, a 1-0 winner over Lindsey Wilson.
