Tigers rally past Georgetown, face Wise on Sunday

Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Mid-South Conference Pitcher of the Year Michael McBride led Campbellsville University past Georgetown College Saturday in a tight, 10-inning 4-3 win. The win keeps Campbellsville alive in the Mid-South Conference Tournament after losing 9-3 to St. Catharine College on Friday.

Campbellsville will play the University of Virginia's College at Wise on Sunday at 4 p.m.

McBride, who is slated to be the starter for CU against University of Virginia's College at Wise on Sunday, punched a hard-hit, two-out single to second base that scored Trent Seamons for the go-ahead run in the 10th. Ryan Richardson (4-0) recorded the win in relief for Campbellsville after retiring Georgetown in order in the bottom half of the inning.

Campbellsville took a 2-0 lead in the first with an RBI single by Gabriel Arcoleo and RBI fielder's choice by Jameel Ziadeh. Georgetown evened the score in the bottom of the second on an RBI double by Smith and RBI single by Payne. Both runs were unearned for CU pitcher Rusty Devitt after CU made an error to start the inning and retired two players on a fielder's choice.

Smith produced an RBI single in the fourth inning as part of a 3-for-4 game. The single gave Georgetown a 3-2 lead. In the sixth inning, Craig Edwards led off the inning with a walk and used heads-up base running to give Campbellsville a 4-3 lead. After advancing to second on a fly ball by Ziadeh, Edwards swiped third base and scored as the throw to third got away from Smith.

After seven innings of work, Devitt retired for the day, leaving Richardson in close things out. Richardson tossed three perfect innings in relief for the win, retiring eight of his nine outs on ground balls. Devitt allowed one earned run off six hits.

Chase Ballinger took the loss for Georgetown.

The game dictated the flow of the day, as St. Catharine rallied with a five-run eighth inning to eliminate University of the Cumberlands, 8-7, and Shawnee State University beat University of Virginia's College at Wise in the ninth inning, 2-1.

The tournament will resume Sunday as scheduled at 1 p.m. with St. Catharine meeting Shawnee State University in the winner's bracket final. Campbellsville and UVa.-Wise will follow at 4 p.m. in the loser's bracket. The night cap at 7 p.m. will feature the loser of the 1 p.m. game against the winner of the 4 p.m. game.
