NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- Campbellsville University overcame a 3-1 deficit in game two Thursday with a
Morgan Bullock three-run home run. The bomb pushed the Lady Tigers pass Indiana University Southeast, 4-3, and over .500 for the season, improving to 21-20. The win followed a 4-2 game one win to start the day.
Bullock's three-run shot pushed across
Natalie Duncan and
Jordan Cornett. It was part of a four-run swing for CU, which began in the fifth inning when Bullock hit a leadoff single. The Lady Tiger catcher scored on an error later in the inning.
The four run push wiped out a 3-0 start by IUS, which started the game with a solo homer by Katie Jelinek in the second inning. Kate Toney drove in two runs in the third.
Courtney Turpin recorded the win, allowing three earned runs off five hits and three walks. She struck out one.
In the first game, IUS took a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI single by Toney. Campbellsville pushed past the Grenadiers in the fourth with at two-out, two RBI single by
Becca Cook to score
Bailey Dillender and
Natalie Duncan.
Cook provided insurance in the sixth with an RBI single to score Bullock and later scored on a sac fly by Boils.
Riney took the win, striking out five and allowing one earned run in the seventh, a solo homer by Alford. She allowed six hits and one walk. Duke recorded the loss.
Offensively, Bullock led the Lady Tigers with four hits, including a 3-for-3 game two. Duncan followed Bullock with three hits, while
Alex Jane Clemmons,
Jennifer England and Cook had two hits each.
Bailey Dillender,
Stephanie Weathers and
Kacie Vincent each had a hit.
Campbellsville hosts the University of Rio Grande for a Mid-South Conference doubleheader at Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.
