CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Campbellsville University women's soccer team added its first shutout of the season this past Wednesday and did followed with another one Saturday afternoon, stunning the Lady Scots of Covenant College, 4-0, on the turf of HIG Field at Finley Stadium.
The Lady Tigers scored easily in the third minute of the game when sophomore defender,
Bailey McDonough cleared all defenders with a powerful boot downfield to a wide open
Megan Campbell.
Campbellsville would again use a series of well played passes to score in the 12th minute. Junior midfielder
Ashley Corum bent a ball around a Covenant defender, hitting
Jessica Ralph in stride before she would touch a pass to the middle of the field to
Cassie Yannelli. Ralph scored the assist, while Yannelli netted the goal for a quick 2-0 Campbellsville lead.
Yannelli, the junior from Lexington, Ky., returned the favor to Ralph with a nice through ball to create a one-on-one with the keeper. Ralph's fifth goal of the season made it 3-0 CU with 25:49 left in the half.
But the first half magic wasn't over yet. Campbell was taken down from behind in the box two minutes after Campbellsville's third goal. Campbell laced the lower left pocket of the net on her penalty kick, delivering Campbellsville's final blow.
Of Campbellsville's 14 total shots, 10 were directed towards the net.
Ralph and Campbell are now tied for the team lead with five goals apiece.
Campbellsville (4-2) will return to Finley Stadium on Tuesday, Sept. 20 as the Eagles of Midway College visit town for a 7 p.m. ET game.
