Both teams were scoreless through most of the first half until Kwame Boamah and Sias Reyneke teamed up to assist Sebastian Vallejo for the Flames' first goal in the 44th minute. Lee tacked on a second goal in the 75th minute as Josh Inglis assisted Josh Ball.
Tiger starting keeper Kyle Thomas allowed both goals but had seven saves in 70 minutes of play. Aaron Steele had one save.
With a youthful team and two returners not able to play, Tiger head coach Adam Preston sees room for improvement.
"I was a little nervous going into the game, but after the first half I was pretty encouraged. We looked thin in the second half and made some young mistakes, but every problem tonight is correctable," CU head coach Adam Preston said.
The Tigers (0-1) will return to action Saturday at 3 p.m. ET against the host team Mount Vernon Nazarene University (2-1).
