CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville University Lady Tiger volleyball cruised past The University of Virginia's College at Wise in three sets Wednesday night to hold strong to its share of the Mid-South Conference West Division lead. The match sped by in less than an hour with wins of 25-8, 25-18 and 25-14.
CU averaged 13.7 kills per game, led by
Monica Chernichan and
Genevieve Collette with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Collette was consistent throughout the night with three kills in the first two sets and four in the final match to help put away the Highland Cavaliers.
Chernichan powered CU through the second set with seven kills, while reigning MSC Player of the Week
Samantha James played error-free ball in the third set, scoring on six of her eight attacks. The Louisville native finished the night with nine kills.
Defensively,
Audrey Sanders led CU with 13 digs.
Shannon Cahill, Collette and James each had six digs.
Lilian DaSilva had 23 set assists.
Campbellsville (8-6, 4-1 MSC) will travel to Fort Wayne, Ind., this weekend for the two-day Indiana Tech Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament. The Lady Tigers will meet Madonna University (Mich.) at 1 p.m. Friday, followed by a 9 p.m. ET match against indiana Wesleyan. Saturday's opponents and times are to be determined.
