Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- The Campbellsville University women's soccer team didn't end the night as they'd hoped on Tuesday, Oct. 23 in their game against Cedarville University. Yellow Jacket freshman Jacoby Ziegler dominated the field, leaving CU with a 3-1 loss on Senior Night.
"I was very disspointed with our effort," said head coach Thomas Jones. "I wasn't expecting us to come out so flat considering it was Senior Night."
With 21 minutes remaining in the first half, Ziegler dribbled the ball outside of the box, luring CU keeper Brandie Hagerman out of the goal. The freshman forward then slid one to the right of Hagerman for the first score of the game, giving Cedarville the 1-0 lead.
Ziegler acted once again with only 1:53 left on the clock. An assist from sophomore midfielder Elise Hurley 5 yards out of the goal gave the freshman her second goal.
The Lady Tigers went into the locker room trailing 2-0.
Cedarville began the second half the same way the first ended, after Ziegler dribbled the ball 20 yards past the CU defense for her third goal of the game. The score gave the freshman her first career hat trick.
CU finally responded with a Lady Tiger goal in the 70th minute of the game. Freshman forward Rachel Veatch assisted the ball to senior midfielder Cassie Yannelli who fired it above the hands of Cedarville goalie Alysia Bennett, taking the score to 3-1 Cedarville.
With less than three minutes remaining in the game, junior Jessica Ralph kicked a hard shot, but it barely missed, skipping off the crossbar. Campbellsville totaled eight shot on goals, but Yannelli's was the only to pass Bennett.
Hagerman had five saves on the night.
Lady Tiger seniors include: Sarah Akers, Emily Shultz, Cassie Yannelli, Ashley Corum, Amanda Barch, Rebekah Carl, Shelby Pfeiffer, Whitney Hatfield, and Kelsey Mandel.
Campbellsville (8-7-1) will close its regular season Saturday, Oct. 27 at the University of the Cumberlands for a Mid-South Conference game at 2 p.m. EDT.
