"It's hard to come back in a game when you're down 2-0 at half, but I'm proud of my girls for fighting hard until the last second. I really wanted this bad for my seniors," said CU head coach Thom Jones.
Trevecca attacked early, taking its first shot only 40 seconds into the game, but missing wide. Less than three minutes later, the Trojans found net as freshman midfielder Anna Hoffman dribbled the ball through CU defense after an assist from junior Becky Bartos, firing a shot from eight yards out to the left of keeper Brandie Hagerman.
The shots kept firing as Trevecca had another five attempts in the half, four being on goal. With four minutes remaining, junior Becky Bartos scored a second goal for the Trojans in a one-on-one face-off with Hagerman. After luring Hagerman out of the net, the midfielder took a long shot from outside the box. Junior defender Aubrey Black had the assist. CU went into the locker room down 0-2.
Campbellsville stepped up their offensive game in the second half, putting up five shots. Freshman forward Rachel Veatch unleashed a hard shot two minutes into the period, but senior keeper Bekah Headrick acquired the save. The attempt was the only on-goal shot in the half.
Trevecca took two shots in the period but was unable to score as well.
The Lady Trojans (15-3-3) will advance to the NCCAA National Championship in Kissimmee, Fla. at the end of the month. Campbellsville (11-9-1) concludes the season in the NCCAA Mid-East Regional Championship for the fourth time in five years.Â
