CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — After receiving her 1,000-point ball pre-game, Courtney Clifton led the Lady Tigers with 28 points to their second largest win ever over Lindsey Wilson College. Lindsey played from behind the entire 40 minutes, the final score ending at 89-49.
"I was very pleased with tonight," said head coach Ginger Colvin. "We wanted to be 3-0 in the conference, and we did that. Anytime you can get a win against a big rivalry team like that it's huge. Courtney Clifton and Mackenzie Lee both started out so hot, and I attribute a lot of that to Katie Allen getting them the ball. Our posts were also really strong and active tonight. We worked well together."
The 40-point victory was the most lopsided win the team has had over Lindsey since 1994 when CU put up 45 more than the Blue Raiders. Lindsey is currently ranked 17th in the nation, Campbellsville 13th on the list.
The Lady Tigers led from the tip, gaining a quick two-point basket from sophomore forward Daizah Kimberland. Lindsey responded with a bucket of its own, tying the score for less than a minute before CU took off on an 11-point run. The Blue Raiders wouldn't come closer that eight points the rest of the game.
Clifton made it rain with a total of six 3-point baskets, three in each half. The senior was only two 3-pointers away from tying the school record for most 3s in a single game. The Lexington, Ky., native led the team on the boards as well with eight rebounds.
Junior Chelsea Craig was close behind Clifton with seven on the glass. Craig also ended the night with 14 points, going on a 10-point run for the Lady Tigers in just over two minutes during the second half.
Senior guard Mackenzie Lee performed from behind the arc as well, with four 3s and 16 total points. Katie Allen totaled eight points with nine assists. Keisha Compton and Kristen Jacob both scored six points off the bench.
The Lady Tigers' defense made it nearly impossible for Lindsey to find an offensive rhythm. Ashley Rainey, currently placed fifth on the all-time scoring list, was the Blue Raider's top-scorer with 18 points.
"Rainey has a lot of talent," said Colvin. "She is one of the best players in the country, and we beat her tonight."
The next CU game will be held on the road Saturday against Bethel University at 3 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast live on WLCY 88.7 FM and WLCUfm.com. To follow the team, go to www.campbellsvilletigers.com.
