Lady Tigers dominate Wilberforce, 96-45

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The Campbellsville University women's basketball returned from its two-week rest in full-force Friday night, annihilating the Wilberforce University Bulldogs, 96-45. Campbellsville, now ranked 10th in the nation, sits at 9-2 on the season.

"I feel great about that win, especially coming off of finals week," said head coach Ginger Colvin. "When you ask kids to play on the Friday of finals week, that is asking a lot. Mentally they had to be just as tough as they did physically not only because of all the tests, but we are also looking forward to a trip to Puerto Rico."

CU immediately jumped ahead with two 2-point baskets from Mackenzie Lee and Chelsea Craig. Senior guard Courtney Clifton put up a 3-point basket just over two minutes into the game, bringing the score to 7-0. The first Bulldog score came from junior guard Dominque Fisher in the next possession. Wilberforce baskets were few and far between over the rest of the half, while the Lady Tigers continued to accumulate baskets, including two 13-0 runs. The largest lead came just under five minutes left in the half with CU ahead by 28. Wilberforce trailed 26 points, 49-23, going into the locker room.

The second half was much like the first, Campbellsville continuing to dominate the floor.

In the first 10:30, the Lady Tigers outscored the Bulldogs 31-10. Clifton added 11 points to her 13 from the first half, making her the night's leading scorer with 24 total points. The game was Clifton's second 20-plus score total of the season. Lee was behind her with 19 points, Lindsey Burd next on the list, tying her career-high of 10. Sophomore Lindsey Ramage also scored a career high with six points. Junior guard Katie Allen had eight points on the night and tied her career-high with 13 assists. Hayley Hellyer and Mary Jehlik each had six points a piece.

The night ended with the Lady Tigers' largest lead of the game (51) at 96-45.

Wilberforce is now 3-12 on the season.

The Lady Tigers will begin their journey to Puerto Rico bright and early Tuesday morning with a 6 a.m. EST departure from the Louisville International Airport.

"We are excited for Puerto Rico," said Colvin. "The two teams we play are really good, both NCAA Division II teams. Miranda (Deney) will definitely have us ready, we have film on both. Simply being able to get over there and travel will be great for the girls — hopefully a chance of their lifetime considering some haven't even flown before. It is a wonderful group of girls to take somewhere. I'm proud of them and they deserve the opportunity."

Sports Information Assistant, Richard Robards, will be covering the journey with a travel diary as well as game updates. To stay up-to-date, go to www.campbellsvilletigers.com.
