Water Tigers get final tune-up for nationals

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - In a final tuneup for nationals, Campbellsville traveled to the University of the Cumberlands on Saturday to get in some final competitive pool time.

The Lady Tigers, swimming a bit shorthanded with both Alison Lee and Ellen Hittson nursing injuries, had a 1-2-3 finish in the 100-yard freestyle and a personal best for Katie Kelien and season best for Kathleen Ewing.

"It's important to work really hard in the water as we prepare for nationals in a couple of weeks," said Coach Casey Smith.

Campbellsville will head to Oklahoma City, Okla. on March 1, 2 and 3.

Brooke Cato, Carrie Wohlschlegel and Ewing finished 1-2-3, respectively, in the 100-yard free and Kelien's time of 1:16.77 was a personal best in the same race, good for fifth place.

Cato swam a :59.01, Wohlschlegel a 1:03.83, and a 1:03.98 for Ewing.

Ewing's time of 1:08.42 in the 100-yard butterfly was her best time this season, according to Smith.

The 200-yard freestyle team of Ewing, Kelien, Wohlschlegel and Cato finished second in the time of 1:59.97.

CU swimmers and relays qualifying this season for nationals, include:

* Alison Lee in the 200 free

* Brooke Cato in the 50 and 100 free.

* And relay teams in the 200 and 400 medley; and the 200, 400 and 800 free relays.
