Box Score 2 WILMORE, Ky. -- Campbellsville University's bats continued to heat up Tuesday, stringing together 32 runs in a baseball doubleheader sweep at Asbury University. The Tigers won the first game 15-2 before closing out the night cap, 17-4. The wins improved the Tigers to 5-0 in their first seven days of the 2012 season.
Â
The offense display was the most single-day run support the Tigers have had since dropping 39 runs on Indiana University Southeast during a March 2009 doubleheader in New Albany, Ind.
Extra base hits (14) played a big part in the day for Campbellsville, including four home runs and 10 doubles.
In game one,
Chance Kopacz, a junior from Hermiston, Ore., celebrated his birthday with a pinch-hit grand slam in the fifth inning -- his first blast as a Tiger. The four-run shot started a 4-for-6, six RBI day for the junior right fielder.
Aaron Schwoebel also hit a homer in the game with a two-run shot in the sixth inning. He was 1-for-4 on the day with two RBI and three runs scored.
In the second game,
Craig Edwards led CU with a 3-for-4 game and three RBI, including a solo homer.
Marc Garza also had a solo homer in the game, his only hit in a 1-for-3 game. He scored twice in the win and drove in three more runs.
Tanner Nielsen also had four hits on the day and five RBI, joining Kopacz for the team lead in hits for the doubleheader.
Â
On the mound, it was a day of work for nearly all of the pitching staff, with
Tyler Roberts and
Jacob Cook getting the starts for the Tigers. Each went two innings, giving the win to their first relievers -
Andrew Shoemaker in game one and
Mason Yates in game two.
Shoemaker struck out five and allowed three hits in two scoreless innings of game one, while Yates gave up one run, a walk and two hits in three innings of work.
Ryan Richardson,
Drew Pettit,
Michael McBride and
Dario Bortolotto each saw time on the hill for CU. The staff gave up 11 hits in the two games, while Campbellsville had 29 hits on offense.
Campbellsville (5-0) is scheduled to host five games this weekend at Tiger Field, beginning with a doubleheader Friday, Feb. 24 against Huntington University (Ind.) at 1 p.m. CU will host Huntington again Saturday at noon before hosting Point Park University for a nine-inning game Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
